WIMWA event sponsorship 2011

It is that time of year again when we need to start planning for WIMWA events for 2011.

Please see below proposed dates for events.

Day Proposed Dates Time Sponsor Theme Location
Monday 8 March 0730-0900 Chamber of Minerals and EnergyWA Women in Resources Awards and International Women’s Day Convention Centre
Friday 15 April
Friday 20 May
Friday 24 June
Friday 29 July
Friday 2 September
Friday 7 October
Friday 11 November
Friday 16 December

I am assuming that you have been to one or some of the events so that you have some understanding of the usual setup. Most events in 2010 had up to 200 people attend (we had to limit RSVPs due to a huge response); we try to stick to venues in the CBD/West Perth/East Perth. Most events are either a Thursday or Friday 5.30-7.30pm Sundowner style with 20 minute talk, or a longer talk at a breakfast function. Open to different ideas and concepts…

Cost will depend on how you do it, if you self cater at your own venue it will be cheaper, alternatively you can put a fixed amount on the bar and people can buy their own drinks. In summary a function can cost between $1000 and $15000. The minimum would be provision of a venue and some food. I hope this is enough information; most of you will have someone in your organisation that can work out what you might spend on a function based on numbers.

We can help you find someone to co-sponsor an event if this suits you better.

Following on from the success of the the second one day seminar in September we will be running something similar again in 2011 and we will looking for sponsors for this too.

Please submit expressions of interest asap to get the date that you would prefer. Also for the September seminar to get in on the ground floor!

Cheers

Reminder: Nominations for the 2011 Women in Resources Awards

A reminder that applications for the 2011 Women in Resources Awards close on Friday 10 December 2010

The awards, organised by peak industry group the Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA (CME), provide a fantastic opportunity for WA minerals and energy sector companies and their employees to demonstrate their commitment to the promotion of industry best practice and approaches in workforce diversity, to advocate the sector as an exciting career option for women and to showcase the enthusiasm and skills of their staff.

2011 categories are as follows;

- Outstanding Woman in the Resources Sector – Professional/Specialist: recognising an outstanding woman’s contribution to the WA resources sector, her company and/or community;

- Outstanding Woman in the Resources Sector – Trade/Operator/Technician: recognising an outstanding woman’s contribution to the WA resources sector, her company and/or community;

- Women in Resources Champion – recognising an individual, male or female, who has encouraged and supported the attraction, selection, promotion or retention of women within the resources sector; and

- Outstanding Company Initiative – recognising a company that has implemented an innovative initiative, policy or practice which demonstrates successful attraction, selection, promotion or retention of women within the resources sector.

The second annual CME Women in Resources Awards will be presented on 8 March 2011, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day.

Sponsorship options

We have a few sponsorship availabilities for Women in Mining networking functions in the middle of the year as follows:

  • Friday 5th June
  • Friday 10th July
  • Friday 21st August

With the current global economic climate it is understandable that companies are cautious about their ability to to sponsor large and potentially costly functions so here is a less expensive alternative where the sponsor provides only the venue and food and the attendees buy their own refreshments. I have tentatively booked a venue at the Melbourne Hotel for 150-200 people for the above dates. Sponsorship cost is approximately $1500 as follows:
Venue and Audiovisual: approx $500
Platter of food for 150+: approx $1000
Drinks: to be purchased by individuals

Proposed event details:
5.30pm – 7.30pm
20 minute presentation (optional)
Speaker suggestions/ideas available if you need them

These dates and the venue are just one option and have been provided to make it easy for people to commit to sponsorship quickly. If you have other options or ideas please forward them to me at sabina@momentumpartners.com.au . Please provide a prompt response if you can sponsor one of these events as the Melbourne Hotel requires prompt confirmation.

cheers and thanks

Venue required for Career Seminars in May

Last October, in conjunction with Women on Boards, we ran some career workshops for women in the mining and resources sector. We want to run these again, and we are looking for a venue as follows:

Monday 4th May afternoon
Tuesday 5th May morning

A board room table for maybe 25 (?) or better still a room with say 5 (?) tables of 6-8 would be good. Preferably close to CBD. Last time we had a lecture theatre with about 40 people each time. This venue wasn’t ideal for everyone to be able to talk together hence the preference for one big table or several tables.

If you have access to facilities that may be available for no cost or a reasonable cost, please let me know.

Regards,
Sabina
